Well, I am going to tell you ways that you can fix your faucet for free and guarantee that it won't drip again! The reasons that your faucet might be leaking could be that the nuts are loose, if the leaking is from the nut area or from the base of the handle then the nut might be loose; the washer might be worn out, you could have poor quality washers that have worm out by now; the washers or the faucets aren't installed properly; the disc, cartridges and ball faucets have O-rings that keep them intact or working properly, and these O-rings might have worn out; it could be a plumbing problem as well. These are some of the basic reasons that your faucet might be leaking and making that awful sound.
Now to fix your faucets, the first thing you have to do is to cover the sink's stopper, or the hole that leads the water out of the sink, so that when you open your faucet or the handles it would prevent small parts from falling into the drain and not make your life more miserable. Turn the water valves completely off. You then take a screwdriver and remove the handle; no matter if you have a compression-type faucet or the other kind you can remove the handle easily with the screwdriver. If you have any decorative cap on top of the handle, you can remove that by using a knife or something sharp and usually you will find the screw underneath the cap. Take off the handle to show the stem assembly; you have to gently pull the nut that holds the stem using slip-joint pliers. Look for damages done to the stem assembly; check the rubber washer on the end. If the stem assembly looks normal, unscrew the packing nut to look at the O-ring inside it. If the washer seems to be damaged, then place a new washer, and if the O-ring is damaged then you have to remove this O-ring with a knife and replace it with a new one. If the washer and O-ring are good then check for any rough spots near the valve seat inside the faucet. You can replace the seats if they are damaged. Once you have completed this process carefully return everything in place and tighten them up.Your dripping faucet problem will be solved if you follow the steps carefully!
